Calling the Home Heat Helpline took a lot of stress and worry away “Before I spoke to the Home Heat Helpline I didn’t know where to turn to or what to do. My bills were out of control and I was getting into serious debt with the energy company. I ignored it for a long time, and then when I tried to do something about it I had a really frustrating time trying to talk to someone properly.

“When I spoke to the Home Heat Helpline they talked a lot of sense. They listened to me instead of talking at me. It was nice to talk to someone who understood.

“The Home Heat Helpline sorted everything out for me and spoke to the energy company on my behalf.

“I’ve got three young kids – Sophie, who’s at school, Tyler and Doante – and right now I’m bringing them up on my own. It’s a struggle to get by and I know a lot of young people like me find it hard to ask for help. As a single mum you feel like you’re being judged and I wanted to prove that I could survive.

“Calling the Home Heat Helpline took a lot of stress and worry away. They got insulation put in for me, arranged with the council to get the old windows replaced, I got put on a different payment plan and they got the interest on my debts stopped and set up a payment plan for those.

“It’s changed our lives. Now I know when I get up that the kids can have their baths, I can have the heating on in the evening and I don’t have to worry about it cutting out. “I would definitely say to other people to ring the Home Heat Helpline — especially younger people. It’s not just for old people. The longer you leave it the harder its going to get. It’s only a phone call and it’s not going to cost you anything, so why not?”
